Achievements of BSI hospital-wide surveillance in Belgium

چکیده
Results Out of 141 acute hospitals, about 80.8 hospitals participated annually with 211.6 surveillance quarters and 5715.8 BSI episodes. From 2005 to 2009, all indicators fell BSI/1000 admissions from 7.2 to 5.6, BSI/10000 patient-days (9.3 7.8), and BSI/1000 haemocultures (2.2 1.9). Catheter-related BSI also fell (21.6 17.6%), while secondary BSI remained stable (43.5-42.8%) and BSI of unknown origin increased (34.9 39.6%). Secondary BSI main source was, by far, urinary tract infections (UTI). Two microorganisms increased over the period: Escherichia spp. by 3% and Streptococcus spp. by 2%. The intensive care units (ICU) remained the first ward at risk (21.9 to 18.3% BSI were ICU-acquired), but geriatrics rose to a second place (11.6 14.0%).

Healthcare associated bloodstream infections – secular trends of 8 years hospital-wide surveillance in a tertiary care university hospital
Methods Introduced 1995 in acute care, prospective and systematic BSI surveillance at the University of Geneva hospitals was extended to a hospital-wide survey in 2003. Positive blood culture results identified by an electronic automated alert system were individually investigated and allocated to the following categories: contamination, secondary BSI (sBSI), primary BSI (pBSI) and catheter-rel...
متن کاملMulticenter evaluation of computer automated versus traditional surveillance of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections.
OBJECTIVE Central line-associated bloodstream infection (BSI) rates are a key quality metric for comparing hospital quality and safety. Traditional BSI surveillance may be limited by interrater variability. We assessed whether a computer-automated method of central line-associated BSI detection can improve the validity of surveillance. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Eight medica...

Background Methods for haplotyping and DNA copynumber typing of single cells are paramount for studying genomic heterogeneity and enabling genetic diagnosis. Before analyzing the DNA of a single cell by microarray or next-generation sequencing, a whole-genome amplification (WGA) process is required, but it substantially distorts the frequency and composition of the cell’s alleles. As a conseque...

متن کامل897Feasibility of Using Existing Public and Private Data Sources for Nationwide Medical Device Post-marketing Safety Surveillance
Background. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated a national strategy for monitoring post-market medical product safety using existing public and private electronic data. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) publicly report hospital central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLA-BSI) data. We explored the feasibility of expanding the current FDA Sentinel Initiativ...
